What is I.P.L

Pulsar IPL is a non-invasive method of permanent hair removal which destroys the follicles of visible growing hair. It is a quick and easy process, which provides long lasting results with minimal discomfort.

Successful treatment is achieved by exposing visible hair to intense pulses of light. The light is absorbed by the hair shaft and the resultant heat permanently eliminates future hair growth.

What's involved?

The treatment area is assessed and prepared. Once a cooling gel applied, your therapist will administer pulses of light progressively over the treatment area. This is achieved using a hand held applicator suited to your specific needs.

During your treatment, you will be asked to wear protective eyewear. You will be aware of the light pulsing from the equipment and feel a sensation which many of our clients describe as a gentle 'snap' upon the skins surface.

Following your treatment, you may experience slight redness and tenderness of the treatment area, this is perfectly normal and will calm down within 24 hours.

Treatment time can range from 15 minutes to 2 hours dependant on the area being treated. An interval of 4-6 weeks is allocated between treatments. Stubble may appear a few days after treatment. This is the thermally damaged hair detaching from the follicle.

How effective is it?

Hair grows in three stages. Anagen, Catagen and Telogen. Anagen is the active growth stage. The IPL captures the hair at the anagen stage, when the hair has its highest level of pigmentation. IPL is a non invasive procedure which thermally destroys the hair.

The melanin in the skin, which produces the hairs colour, absorbs the light from our equipment and converts to heat. The heat moves down to the roots of the hair and permanently disables them.

Although IPL works on all hair types, the darker the hair, the more effective the treatment is as the hair will absorb the light quicker.

There is approximately a 20% noticeable reduction after the first session, this increases to 95% after the 4th to the 5th session.
